Please help a good cause!

You can run - not everyone can; help a good charity!

Charities from previous charities

Action for Kids

Action for Kids Charitable Trust (contact: nickyl@action-for-kids.demon.co.uk ) has five bonds for the 1999 London Marathon and urgently needs runners.

Action for Kids is a small charity that has been set up to provide help and support for disabled children and young people. We do this in two key ways. Firstly, by providing mobility aids such as powered wheelchairs and secondly through running a work experience programme for disabled young people.

We are asking that people running in the 1999 Marathon for Action for Kids raise a minimum of £500 in sponsorship money.

All enquiries should be directed to the above email address or telephone enquiries should be made to Nicky Lawes at Action for Kids on +44 (0)181 535 0100.

Shaw Trust

Would you be prepared to go that ‘extra mile’ for Shaw Trust in the ’99 Flora London Marathon?

Do you want a place in the Marathon or have you got one?

As we’ve yet to allocate our ten Golden Bond places this year you could be running for us..

What we do:

Shaw Trust is a registered charity, established in 1981 which focuses on the abilities of disabled people, championing what they can do rather than what they cannot. Through rehabilitation, training, advice, support and employment, the Trust enables people with all types of disabilities and mental health problems to achieve their potential in the ‘real’ workplace.

We now employ, train and support over 5,000 people a year, with 2,500 individuals placed with over 2,000 companies throughout the United Kingdom. In addition we run training projects for both work and life-skills. Those in employment are assisted by support and development officers who have a wide range of experience in helping people overcome work related, personal and social problems.

‘Shaw trust has changed my life and changed me as a person, I thought I had no future’

If you’re looking for a good cause to run for whether you’ve got a place or not - give us a call or drop us a line

We’d like to hear from you now!

If you have please read on....

Congratulations!

We recognise you have accepted this challenge of trying to complete the course. Can we invite you to accept a further challenge to raise badly needed funds for this charity and it's work?

HEADWAY, a National Registered Charity devoted to the support and care of brain damaged survivors of head injury and their families, would be tremendously grateful if you could raise money for us at the same time!

We will provide you with a Headway Running Vest and a sponsorship form for you to pass around your family and friends. Any amount you can raise, however small, would be a great help to us. A certificate of thanks will be presented to everyone running for us, and we will present a pair of trainers ( to the value of 100 pounds) to the runner who raises the most money for us!

Details and additional information on HEADWAY, can be sent on request.

Greenwich England is where East meets West at the Greenwich Meridian (0° Longitude); World Time is set Greenwich Mean Time. Remember the new millennium started in 2001.

Greenwich lies on the River Thames, a few minutes by rail or tube, or a short river cruise from central London.  If you want to visit Greenwich and information on visiting London, England then see Greenwich Info.  There is the famous Cutty Sark to visit and the Royal Naval College.  Just down river is the Thames Barrier which is close to London City Airport

The Royal Observatory at Greenwich is in Greenwich Park along with the National Maritime Museum and the Queens House (on which the White House in Washington DC, USA is based).  For information on astronomy visit Greenwich Star

The London Marathon starts in Greenwich Park every Spring.

Greenwich has a long heritage; it was the birth place of King Henry VIII and his daughters Queen Mary (Bloody Mary) and Queen Elizabeth I (The Virgin Queen).  All the English monarchs can be found at Royal History.

It has seen many famous visitors from Peter the Great through Charles Dickens to Bob Hope.  This and a lot more in Greenwich Past.

For information on all the other places in the world called Greenwich including Greenwich Village, New York City, USA then visit Greenwich Town.

Visit the Greenwich Book Shelf where you can buy titles old and new.
